There are a lot of great reasons why you should add a blog to your Premium Site Powered by BloomNation. Posting regularly can boost your SEO, help customers get to know your employees, show off examples of your work, and more.
To Start:
- Let the Bloom Experts know you want to start blogging by emailing Floristsupport@bloomnation.com . They will add a button to your site’s menu so you and your customers can see the posts you publish.
- Log into your Dashboard
- Click My Website
- Select My Blog
- Click the Add a new post button (see example below)
Now, Write Your First Blog Post!
Before you write your post, think about what your customers want to read about. For example, one of the most popular types of posts is "Wedding Recaps".
Post reviews from brides after each wedding, and credit other vendors to create goodwill and help your SEO!
Holiday reminders and seasonal updates are a few other standbys that you should publish regularly. Otherwise, think about common questions you get from your customers, such as:
- How to take care of orchids
- What flowers are in season
- How often to water succulents
- How to decorate with flowers
- What kinds of flowers do moms like
- … you get the idea
When you have time, write about subjects that your customers or even other florists might find interesting. For example:
- A day in the life of a florist
- How you started your business
- Why you decided to become a florist
- How you prepare for a wedding
- Your favorite flower to design with and why…
HINT: Content that is hyper-local to you is more likely to be ranked by Google and other search engines (i.e. will be better if your goal is to boost your SEO).
After you’ve decided your topic and prepared your thoughts, follow the five steps below:
1. Give it a Title
Name your post something you think your audience is looking for. Think about how you might search for your blog post if you wanted to find it on Google. That will help give your posts more SEO strength. This article from HubSpot has some more insight into what makes a great headline.
2. Write the Content
Don’t worry about making your post too long or complicated. Around 300-600 words is plenty. The longer your blog the more you should pay attention to things like headings and bullets. This article from HubSpot has great advice on how to choose your content and format your writing.
3. Add some pictures!
Every blog post should be published with a featured image, the picture that appears on your blog’s homepage.
To add your featured image:
- Click the blue Choose button (see the example below)
- Select the jpg or png file you wish to use
Pictures help bring your words to life and keep your readers engaged. Add a few more pictures in the body of your post, especially if you plan to share it on social media. Read these rules and tips for using pictures in posts from HubSpot before you get started.
To add images to the body of your content:
- Click the “add image” icon (it looks like a mountain in a picture frame)
- Select the jpg or png file you wish to use
- Adjust the image’s size and location if needed
4. Press Publish!
Check your writing for grammar and spelling errors. Once you’re sure everything looks good, press the blue Publish button at the bottom of the screen.
Go to your website and make sure the post you just published looks ok. Check that the images show up the way you prefer, and the formatting came out the way you meant it to. If they don’t, go back to the My Blog tab in your Dashboard and click the title or blue edit button next to the post you want to change (see example below).
Make your changes and be sure to click the blue Update button at the bottom of the screen (see example below). Try not to edit the text in the Identifier field box, as that’s what determines your post’s URL.
5. Share, Share, Share
When you’re 100% satisfied with your work, share your post on your social media channels. Simply putting it up is not enough. Use the featured image on Instagram, post the link to Facebook, and even offer a special discount to customers who share it with their followers! The more people who read your blog, the more it will grow and boost your SEO, sales, and customer base.
